ROOF WINDOWS - FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Velux roof window installations by the Daylight Doctor in Hampshire

Frequently Asked Questions

Here's a selection of questions that The Daylight Doctor often receives from customers making enquiries about the installation of new and replacement of windows. If you have a question that isn't on this page please contact us and we'll of course be happy to talk to you.

Should I receive a certificate of registration when my VELUX window has been replaced?

A FENSA certificate is your assurance that the installer who fitted your windows or doors has complied with Building Regulations. It also means that your installation(s) will have been registered with the Local Council. These are legal requirements and proof of them is essential when selling your home.

Can a roof window be installed on a roof of any pitch?

Centre–pivot roof windows are designed to be installed on a roof pitch from 15˚–90˚, depending on the roofing material and flashing selected. Top–hung roof windows are designed to be installed on a roof pitch from 15˚–75˚ (55˚–75˚ with the use of special springs), again depending on the roofing material and flashing selected. VELUX also offer a range of flat roof solutions which can be installed on roofs with a pitch from 0˚–15˚.

Will we require scaffolding to be erected outside our property?

In most instances VELUX roof windows can be installed and replaced from the inside. This allows the project to be carried out more safely and removes the unwanted and usually high cost incurred by having a scaffold.

What areas do we cover?

We cover the whole of Hampshire as well as the surrounding counties; we have undertaken projects all across England and Wales.

Do we use sub–contract labour to do our work?

We have a team of qualified tradesman who have worked together for the last 10 years and all who have received training directly from VELUX. These are not just colleagues who have become friends who share the same values in customer excellence, reliability, attention to detail and most importantly, trust in each other.

Do we need to visit the property to provide a quote?

When replacing a VELUX roof window we can provide an estimate using information and photos that you can give us. Because of the amount of windows we have replaced, this is usually quire accurate. When installing a new window it is slightly more in–depth as we would need to ascertain the build up of the roof, access, the most suitable window in terms of size, operation and finish. We can still provide you with an estimate but in both cases, to turn the estimate into a quotation we would like a quick visit to ensure we have all of the relevant information.

Can we supply and install blinds?

As a thank you for choosing us, we supply and install a new, free roller blind for every window that we either replace or install as new. You can of course upgrade the roller blind to a blackout blind or any other blind and just pay the difference in the list price. Can we upgrade our existing roof windows from manually opening to one that opens by remote control?

If you have an existing VELUX roof window which is in good condition but a little awkward to reach, why not upgrade your window instead of replacing it? VELUX now provide a Solar upgrade kit which connects to your existing window and all you have to do is press a button. Don't worry if you go out and forget to close it. It comes with a built in rain sensor and it will close the window for you while you are out.
